The first monthly challenge of 2010 for me is going to be giving up things. My goal with this challenge is to de-clutter my house, my diet and my life. So here are some things I will be giving up this month:
1. Soda. I drink a lot of water already, but during December (before we went away) I drank almost nothing but soda and Red Bull. It was not pretty. So as of today I’m not longer having soda (or Red Bull!).
2. Old, random items. I have a lot of stuff. I mean a LOT. Most of it is from when I was younger and holds some memory. I need to learn to let go of these things – like stuffed animals. I think I have every one I ever owned from the time I was 10. Do I really need these? No, definitely not. Giving them to a charity shop will mean another child can enjoy them as much as I did.
3. Books. Hubby moans I have too many. I say you can never have too many books. But I know there are ones I still have that I perhaps have no intention of reading again.
4. Clothes. I go through my clothes fairly often now, but I’m due to go through them again. As my style changes there are things that tend to stay in my closet and never get worn. After this winter is over I’ll go through my winter wardrobe and probably get rid of all of it. My intention is to be much smaller than I currently am by next winter so none of it will fit anyway!
This is a good start to the new year. I’m giving up something I don’t really enjoy anymore, letting go of the past and passing things I no longer need on so others can benefit.
What changes will you make this month to benefit yourself and others?
I previously mentioned my post-holiday weigh in. I just want to confirm my first weight loss goal of 2010. Today I was 96 kg, by the end of February I am aiming for 90. It’s a consistent loss of just under 2lbs/wk, which is attainable. Stating my goal here will help motivate me to do it. I don’t intend to not meet my goal and instead write excuses or just say I was too lazy to do it.
