This may be hard to believe… I rarely buy makeup! I have so much that I don’t need to top up or buy new stuff very often at all. I think the last time I bought some was last year, for an event I had to attend. So it was time for me to buy some new stuff and get more of the faves I’d run out of…
I spent a good few hours pouring over the Bare Minerals website a few weeks ago. My method is this – everything I like I put into my basket. Then when I’m done I go through it all and decide if I really like/want/need it. (I do this with clothes as well – the amount of times I’ve gone ‘Oh I love that’ and then really looked at it and though ‘Nah…’ is innumerable!) Anyway, because I don’t buy loads of stuff often this was intended to be a big order and I got loads of good stuff.
Here’s what I got…
The Basics
bareMinerals READY SPF20 Foundation – R250
I used the foundation picker on the website, which asks you a load of questions and then picks the foundation that matches your needs best. This was the result so I thought I’d give it a go. The first time I used it I wasn’t impressed. I used it with the BB Primer Cream and it was way too much coverage for me and felt caked on. I’m not used to a pressed powder foundation anymore! I’ve use it more sparingly since then, on occasions when I need more coverage and without any other creams or foundations and it’s been better.
Prime Time BB Primer-Cream Daily Defense SPF 30 – Light
This is my new go to. Yes, it’s only a primer cream, but it’s perfect for light coverage and my daily needs. Most of the time I use this on top of my moisturiser and that’s it for foundation. I don’t need anything else. It’s really light and doesn’t feel like there’s anything there. If I feel like I need a bit more coverage I use my loose foundation, which blends right in and gives it a more polished look.
I use this after the BB Primer Cream and before applying eye colour, and it works wonders. My eye colour stays put and pops more than without it. Definitely a noticeable difference that I love.
The Pretty Stuff
Sheen Eyecolor – Cultured Pearl
This colour originally came with another order years ago and quickly became one of my favourites so I had to get a new, bigger pot this time around. I’ve taken to using just this and some liquid liner for a quick and easy eye look that can be casual or dressed up.
bareMinerals READY Eyeshadow 8.0 – The Power Neutrals
I love, love, love this palette. It’s exactly what I was looking for as I’ve started using more neutrals. It gives you wonderful combinations to choose from and is perfect for day or night!
Velvet Treasures Eyeshadow Collection
I haven’t used any of these yet and they are stored away in the beautiful box for when I need them. You can never have too many eye shadows in your arsenal. The colours are gorgeous and when I have proper time and storage for everything to be laid out, I will definitely be adding them to the rotation!
Flawless Definition Curl & Lengthen Mascara – Espresso
I’ve been wanting a brown mascara for ages now and couldn’t find any! I was happy to find this and again, it’s my new go to mascara. I was asked yesterday if I’d had my lashes done as they looked amazing! All thanks to this mascara.
Give It A Twirl (No longer available on the website)
I love the shades I got in this, but it’s a bit too glossy sometimes and does dry out my lips. Beautiful colours though that go perfectly with some of the existing kits I have.
Beautifully Brilliant Fortune Found
Again, this is a neutral kit that can be dressed up or down depending on your needs, as with most BE kits. (Don’t you just love their versatility?) It’s a lovely palette that gives me a lift if I want a more polished, together look. It’s also easily mixed with other stuff I already have.
Most of this stuff I found under the ‘Last Chance’ page. I always find it simpler going through that then looking through everything, and sometimes you find a good deal. I don’t think anything I bought was actually on sale this time around, though!
It’s such a shame at the moment, in our rental I don’t have a lot of space for makeup so everything is just stuffed in bags in the corner of the ensuite. I can’t wait to get in to our new home so I can set up a proper makeup station. I’ve seen some cool ideas on Pinterest that I’d love to be able to do, space permitting of course!
